Training Program

Program

Fernie Freestyle Ski Club is stoked to offer Kimberley Freestyle — a program designed for skiers who want to take their skiing to the next level while discovering the world of freestyle. This is a skills-focused, fun-first program; it is not a learn-to-ski program.

Registration is open for the 2026/27 season

Weather policy: the program operates outdoors and depends on weather and mountain conditions. There are no make-up days, refunds, or credits for individual sessions cancelled due to weather or unsafe conditions — this keeps fees consistent and protects our coaching commitments for the season.
Group placement: registration is capped at 14 athletes, split into two coaching groups by age, ability, and skiing skill, so coaches can give meaningful, individual feedback. Once full, additional athletes may join a waitlist.

Skills You'll Build

Progression is individual

Athletes are challenged to progress from the skills they already have toward new terrain, features, and tricks when they're ready — there's no expectation that everyone learns the same trick at the same time.

Park

  • Jumps & air awareness
  • Boxes & rails
  • Spins
  • Safe feature progression

Moguls

  • Bump technique
  • Absorption
  • Line choice
  • Speed control

Natural / Big Mountain

  • Skiing steep terrain
  • Natural jumps
  • Terrain selection
  • Confidence in powder & varied terrain

Our Philosophy

Freestyle skiing is about more than tricks. It teaches athletes to be creative, be present in their bodies, take on challenges, manage risk, persevere when something doesn't work the first time and, most importantly, have fun on skis.

Build great skiers. Develop great people. Have fun along the way.

Competition

KFC at Panorama

Competition experience isn't required, but all Kimberley Freestyle athletes are strongly encouraged to attend the KFC competition at Panorama in early March. Athletes progress at their own pace — KFC is a chance to step outside their comfort zone, try something new, and have fun with teammates. Competition fees are not included in the registration fee.

Fernie Freestyle Ski Club has generously offered to bring our athletes to additional local competitions with their team, under the guidance of their coaches. Email us if your athlete is interested.
